Description
The Goat Hotel is a two-storey building with an attic and cellar, constructed with painted brickwork in Flemish bond and topped with a slate roof. It features a red-brick chimney at the west end. The façade has a three-window range with a central doorway facing High Street, and a lean-to extension at the west end, along with modern extensions at the rear.
The windows are hornless sash types; there are tripartite windows on both the ground and first floors, each with 16 panes, while the window above the doorway has 12 panes. All window openings have segmental brick arched heads. In the attic, dormers with hipped roofs contain 16-pane sash windows. The building has a dentilled eaves cornice and a modern door with an overlight above. A portico porch supported by two columns with moulded capitals features an entablature with a frieze. Iron railings are fixed to the cobbles in front of the windows, which were formerly used for tethering horses.
Inside, there is a central staircase directly opposite the doorway. The layout consists of three bays, with a narrow central stair hall flanked by wider side bays that were likely originally divided into two rooms. A large fireplace is located at the west end, but the interior has undergone significant alterations.
