Description
Gwern Hwsmon is a T-plan house dating from 1744, built of rubble stone with a slate roof. It has a brick stack on the right side and a large external stack on the left gable end. The central gabled porch features a tooled stone segmental head with the inscription 'HM 1744' and has a boarded door. Most of the windows are modern insertions set under wooden lintels. To the right of the porch is a three-light window, while to the left are two single-light windows, with three similar windows located in the upper storey. The right gable end has enlarged three-light and one-light stair windows, and a small inserted upper-storey window is on the left side. The rear wing includes a pair of French doors in the lower storey beneath a single wooden lintel, along with two replacement windows in the upper storey that are topped with 17th-century hood moulds. The rear gable end of the wing has a similar hooded window on the right and inserted one-light and two-light windows in the upper storey. The opposite side wall of the rear wing features one-storey and two-storey projections. The left gable end of the main range has inserted upper-storey windows on either side of the stack.
Inside, the hall to the right of the entrance has two cross beams with broad chamfers and a fireplace with a timber lintel. To the left is a full-height dog-leg stair with turned balusters and square newels. The kitchen to the left and the rear parlour both have timber lintels over their fireplaces. The main range has a three-bay roof supported by collar-beam trusses.
