Description

Old Pendre is a two-storey central entry house dating from the 18th century, featuring slate roofs and rubble masonry, with some painted and part rendered surfaces, and weatherboarding at the rear. The house has end chimneys and a later block that faces Garth Road, while an earlier wing extends at right angles to the rear.

The Garth Road elevation displays an undulating roof with rendered end chimneys. It has three first-floor windows, each with nine small panes in horned sashes that include narrow glazing bars. On the ground floor, there are larger three-part sash windows divided by wood mullions, flanking a central doorway. The doors and windows are offset to the right to accommodate a large living room fireplace located at the left end of the building. A small square window is present in the eastern gable. At the rear, the windows have been somewhat altered, and there is a dormer in the roof that lights the stairs. A two-storey wing at the rear extends at right angles, with some very small rubble masonry still visible. The gable facing north is weatherboarded, as is the upper part of the eastern wall.

Inside, a boarded front door leads to a small hall with a dogleg stair. To the right is a small parlour, behind which is a former dairy that retains oak shutters and iron bars on the north-facing window. To the left is the living room, with the kitchen located behind it in the earlier wing. The worked timber details suggest a later 18th-century date, featuring plain beams and joists, boarded doors, and partitions. The roof over the Garth Road block has a standard late king post truss, and the plastered rafters indicate that part of the roof space may have been used as living accommodation.
