Description

Horeb Congregational Church is a chapel built in three bays over a basement school, located at the northeast corner and featuring an attached tower with a spire. The church has a slate roof and is constructed from grey stone that is rough-dressed and snecked, with paler stone dressings.

The entrance front is gabled with overhanging eaves. On the first floor, there is a large round-headed window with tracery, flanked by narrow windows. The ground floor features a triple arched porch, with the central arch flanked by lower arches, all having hood moulds above. Moulded imposts are present on the arches, and a string course runs around the tower and the left side of the porch. The porch is accessed by central steps that divide to lead into the main body of the chapel.

The sides of the chapel have three bays, with shallow buttresses and tall round-headed windows. The basement is lit by camber-headed windows that serve the schoolroom. On the south side of the porch, there is a narrow round-headed window providing light to the stairs, and a square-headed window in the basement lights a service room. The west gable end features a round window with stained glass.

At the angle between the porch and the main body of the chapel is a four-stage tower topped with a spire. The tower has clasping buttresses and a pyramidal spire that rises directly from the top of the tower, with small oval windows under its gables. The top stage of the tower has large round-headed windows, with a string course at the impost level. The middle two stages contain narrow round-headed windows and small circular windows, while the ground level has a square doorway beneath a round-headed hood.

The interior was remodeled in 1905. At the west end, there is a set fawr enclosure surrounded by iron rails with floral decoration. The organ console is positioned in front of the set fawr, with organ pipes flanking it in the corners of the building. The gable wall features painted decoration and a round window with stained glass. There is a gallery at the entrance end only, and the roof has exposed trusses that are ceiled at collar level. The pews and fittings are made of varnished pitch pine. The basement contains a schoolroom and service rooms.
