Description
Gwndwnwal is a U-shaped farmhouse dating from the 18th century, with an attached barn and byre range at right angles to the east. The house has a frontage that extends across the barn, and there is a cartshed positioned at right angles to the north, opposite the house. The house and farm range are constructed from limewashed stone with a rendered gable end and feature a slate roof. It has two end stacks, one made of brick on the right and a lateral brick stack at the front, along with a low offset at the gable end.
The outward-facing elevation displays three small six-pane hopper windows at eaves level, and the ground floor has windows with altered glazing under timber lintels. The farmyard-facing elevation is narrower due to the barn occupying one bay, featuring a central doorway, a small four-pane window to the left, a similar double window to the right, and two windows like those on the front at the first floor. The attached range has a corrugated roof, with the barn on the left that includes opposing double doors and an additional doorway to the right. The byre to the right has three segmental arched openings on the ground floor and boarded loft openings, along with a single bay cartshed range at right angles.
Inside, the house has a central entry passage plan with stairs ascending to the front left, a kitchen to the right, and a parlour located in the barn wing to the left. The cow byre and stable, which has a hayloft above, are in the attached range and feature pegged collar and tie roof trusses. The barn is divided from the byre by a wall and contains trusses with struts and two rows of staggered trenched purlins, along with ventilation slits.
