Description
The brick wall at the rear of Top Terrace in Powis Castle Gardens is a Grade I listed structure. It is built of brick and rises from ground level at each end to its final height. The central section of the wall features five niches, which are separated by blind recessed shaped panels, with similar triangular panels at each end. These panels have stone moulded frames and showcase rubbed brickwork that differs in character from the main structure's brickwork. Each niche has either triangular or segmental pedimented heads, and originally, though not always respected in later repairs, they used contrasting colors of stone for the architrave, entablature, and pediment. The niches once housed statues, although this may not have been their original purpose; since 1981, they have been filled with a series of urns. Below each niche are moulded apron panels, along with continuous plinth moulding.
