Description
Bronwylfa is a two-unit house, now with one and a half storeys, oriented east to west, with its east gable facing the road. There is a small later one and a half storey wing to the south. The building is constructed of stone, informally rendered, and features random slate roofs with tile ridges. The gable of a former dormer on the right unit remains, and the slates in its valleys are laced. The main range has stone end chimneys, and the later wing has a stone lateral chimney, all topped with 19th-century brick stacks. The end chimney on the west side of the main range is large, with its upper part shaped into a more circular form and adorned with stone ribs. There is a modern low extension that spans the full width of the rear.
The windows on the front (south) and the east side facing the road are all 19th-century, featuring horned single-glazing bar sashes, likely restored when the south wing was added, which has similar windows. The main door and the door to the south wing are both boarded, with a light porch on the former.
Inside, the main part of the house has a two-unit layout, separated by a timber-framed partition that includes an oak boarded door. Some of the timber framing from the exterior walls is still visible. The kitchen, located to the west, has a single longitudinal beam that is chamfered and has tongue stops. The parlour, to the east, features two beams that are also chamfered and stopped. The kitchen hearth boasts a massive oak bressummer, which is chamfered and stopped, alongside a large bread oven with its own flue and an iron door marked 'Coalbrookdale 14'. There is a large open chimney.
At the first storey level, there is a front dormer of 17th-century style in the east unit, which is now filled, with the roof of the later wing abutting it. The west unit previously had a lower ceiling, as there was an occupiable attic above, with a blocked fireplace that is partially visible in the roof space.
The later wing has its own staircase, with a mid-height connection to the inner room of the house at ground floor only.
