Description

Marwen, also known as No. 2 Rose Cottages, is part of an irregular terrace of cottages that includes Cartrefle and Nos. 1-4 Rose Cottages, featuring a walled and railed forecourt. The terrace consists of one large cottage on the left and four other cottages arranged symmetrically around a rear entry passage. Among these four, there is one single-fronted cottage, two double-fronted cottages, and one single-fronted cottage that has an additional window above its door. The terrace is constructed from local light red brick at the front, with uncoursed stonework at the rear and right gable. The exposed section of the left gable is slate-hung above brickwork. The cottages have a slate roof with a tile ridge and five mid-chimneys.

This double-fronted cottage has been rendered, and its joinery has been replaced with UPVC units that are not in keeping with the original design. However, these changes have not affected the sizes of the openings, and despite the loss of character, the cottage still contributes positively to the overall group value of the terrace.
