Description

Cefn-Dreboeth is a building that has been largely rendered on the outside, with the box-framed construction visible on the east wall and northeast gable, where there is painted brick panel infill. It features a slate roof and brick axial stacks. The framing on the east wall indicates that the earliest construction is irregularly framed with square panels, although several of the timbers appear to have been replaced. The building was later raised slightly in height, with a new roof alignment that includes a jettied gable to the northeast, dated 1688 on the tie-beam. This section features decorative framing, including quatrefoil panels and scissor-braces above the collar. The south-facing elevation is partially obscured by a conservatory from around 1980, and the openings appear to be largely renewed, with French doors to the left next to the cross wing and a 4-light casement window to the right. There is a wide dormer on the left with a 3-light window. The cross wing has a doorway to the right and 3-light casement windows on each floor, with the lower window featuring a transom. There are later extensions against the north and west walls.

The building has a 2-unit main range with an axial stack, while the cross wing is divided by an axial stack to create one large room and a smaller room at the rear. A staircase in the cross wing, likely contemporary with the raising of the house in 1688, features turned balusters and moulded newels and rail. The principal rooms in both the cross wing and main range have deep bar-stopped beams paneling the ceiling, with chamfered joists running in alternate directions in each panel. The kitchen, located on the east side, has a fireplace bressumer with billet moulding. Two trusses from the early roof-line are visible over the main range upstairs.
