Description

Pickhill Hall is a building that showcases four different phases of construction, with the earliest dating back to 1681. The main elevations were completed in the early 18th century, followed by a significant mid-Victorian addition in 1866, and further modifications made in 1990. The principal elevation faces south and features three storeys of red brick with stone dressings, including a low rusticated base and quoins. Designed in the Baroque style, it has seven bays, with the central three projecting slightly and highlighted by full-height Corinthian pilasters. This central section is distinguished by segmentally arched heads over the sash windows. The entrance is marked by moulded window surrounds with side consoles on the first floor and a Corinthian porch on the ground floor. The parapet is balustraded and topped with urns, while a small triangular pediment above the central section contains a festooned coat-of-arms and a domed cupola set back along the same axis.

To the east, there is a two-storey extension with a date-stone from 1866 integrated into the chimney breast, along with a service wing at the rear. To the west, another two-storey Victorian service wing has a large conservatory added to its southern elevation during its conversion to residential use in 1990, as indicated by a date-stone bearing the initials "LSE". Inside, alterations and reorganization after a period of dereliction have resulted in the loss of any original fabric.
