Description
4 Hand Terrace is a terrace of seven estate workers' cottages, constructed of brick and roughcast, topped with slate roofs. Each cottage is one storey with an attic and has a single bay. The terrace features three forward wings that contain cottages 1, 4, and 7, with cottages 2 and 3 located between the central and southern wings, and cottages 5 and 6 at the northern end. The entrances are positioned in the recessed sections beneath a continuous open slated verandah that extends partway up the wings. The cottages have Gothic pointed arched boarded doors set in heavily moulded frames, along with 2-light paned windows that also feature pointed heads. The wings include canted paned timber windows and one first-floor raised and gabled dormer. The eaves of the canted bays are cogged brick. In the northern section, the doors are swapped with the windows compared to the southern section. At the rear, all cottages have various later extensions, and the windows have been altered. In the central wing, the first-floor gable end window has been replaced with a 3-light transomed timber window.
