Description

Pum-Rhyd is a single-storey and attic house built of red brick, featuring earlier timber framing with brick nogging. It has a grey slate roof topped with a brick chimney stack. The building consists of three bays, with an off-centre front door that has six panels and is set in an exposed door frame. The front elevation includes sixteen-pane sash windows with stone cills. The timber framing of the dormers is left exposed behind the barge boards. A wide dentilled brick band of three courses, resembling a cornice, distinguishes the two storeys on the front and side elevations. At the rear, there is a projection from the single pile plan-form, showcasing exposed timber framing and small casement windows.

In front of the house, there is a small garden area enclosed by 18th-century cast-iron railings and a gate, situated on top of a low brick wall with stone coping.

The house remains largely unaltered since its 18th-century refurbishment, retaining original 18th-century doors and door and window surrounds throughout. The ground floor features quarry tiled floors. The sitting room has a bricked-up door to the south, with a Victorian alcove created in its embrasure, adorned with decorative moulding. It also has a window with narrow box shutters, a plaster ceiling, and decorative running vine moulding, along with a cupboard beside the fireplace. To the north is the former buttery and pantry, which retains original shutters on the front elevation. A dog-leg staircase, supported by a large chimney stack that may date back to the medieval period, leads to the first-floor bedrooms, which have few original features but maintain the original plan-form.
