Description

The Pant-yr-ochain Hotel is a Jacobean style house featuring painted render elevations, stone dressings, a slate roof, and rendered chimneys. It has applied 19th-century timber framing, with some timber framing possibly dating back to the 17th century, particularly at the rear. The building has an L-shaped plan with extensions and stands two storeys tall.

The entrance front showcases a central shaped gable with a finial, in front of which is a projecting two-storey porch that also features a shaped gable and finial. The entrance is framed by a stone surround with a shaped pediment, above which are paired sash windows in stone surrounds. To the right, there is a semi-octagonal projecting bay window, with similar windows on the upper floor. An attached bay to the right is set back and has a gable shaped like the others. The right-hand return elevation has a slightly projecting central bay with a shaped gable that contains stone plaques with heraldry and the date 1835.

At the rear, there is a bay to the left with a shaped gablet, while the main range has a central projecting gabled bay. This bay and the one to the left feature applied timber framing of later 19th-century character, while the right side has timber framing of 17th-century character on the upper floor. An attached range at right angles also includes some 17th-century timber framing, and the left-hand return displays additional 17th-century timber framing.

The interior has been remodelled in the 20th century but retains some earlier 19th-century features, including panelled doors, reeded door-surrounds, and some shutters. Visible on the ground floor are parts of the timber framing that reflect its 17th-century origins.
