Description
The former schoolroom of All Saints Primary School is a building in the Gothic Revival style, featuring Early English and Transitional motifs. It is constructed from coursed and squared rubble with ashlar dressings, topped by a slate roof with red ridge tiles and stone chimneys. The building has a modified I-shaped plan, consisting of a single-storey schoolroom and a two-storey schoolhouse.
On the elevation facing School Hill, there is a projecting gabled bay on the left, which has five linked graduated lancet windows with cusped heads arranged in an arch. The attached range features three sets of paired lancets with cusped heads, and to the right, there is a gabled porch with a cusped opening that bears an inscription in memory of Bishop Vowler Short. The projecting gable of the schoolhouse to the right includes a window with plate tracery.
The elevation facing Clappers Lane shows a symmetrical front for the schoolhouse, which has a central gabled porch with an arched entrance flanked by paired lancet windows with cusped heads. The upper floor features a small triangular dormer with a trefoil light, alongside tall gabled dormers that break through the eaves and contain plate tracery windows. An attached stone wall includes Gothic-style gatepiers.
Inside, the schoolroom has an exposed timber roof, while the schoolhouse has undergone alterations in the 20th century but retains simple original doors and stairs. A partial inspection was conducted during a survey in 1995. The building holds group value with All Saints Parish Church.
