Description
24 The Highway is a small two-storey cottage built in the early 19th century, featuring a shallow-pitched slate roof. The west gable has stone copings and a moulded kneeler at the main front. The eaves are dentilated with a narrow, plain cornice. There is a plain rendered chimney on the west end. The central entrance is slightly offset and has a cambered head, with a contemporary five-panelled door. On both floors, there are flanking windows, with the ground floor windows featuring cambered heads. The windows are 12-pane sliding sashes. To the right, there is an open arch where the cottage connects to Ashwood House on the east. At the rear, there is a two-storey projection on the west that forms an L shape with the main block. This projection is made of rendered brick with plain eaves. The entrance has a cambered head and a plain door. To the left, there are two windows; the first-floor window is a 12-pane casement, while the ground floor window is a later six-pane fixed window. Above the door, there is a modern window.
