Description

Mertyn Isaf is a large sub-medieval house featuring a two-storey main range constructed of rubble stone, with an added brick rear wing. Both sections are topped with renewed slate roofs that have coped gables resting on moulded kneelers. The main house includes a tall central stone chimney stack and a smaller stack on the right side. Most windows have been renewed and feature ovolo mullions.

The east front has three windows, with three-light windows where two are located to the left of a stair projection beneath an outshut roof, and a single window to the right. The outshut contains a small stair light set in a dressed stone surround. To the right of the outshut, there are two doorways with stone lintels, with the left one likely being the original doorway. The left gable end features a three-light window on the upper storey. The right gable end has single-light windows on both the lower storey and a similar but smaller window on the upper right. The rear side has three windows with similar renewed mullioned designs, except for an original three-light window with a transom on the right of the rear wing and a two-light window on the left, both showcasing ovolo mouldings.

The rear wing has a rubble stone basement and a plat band between the storeys, with hornless sash windows and an external chimney stack on the gable end. The north side wall features arched heads above two small-pane sash windows, which are offset to the right in the lower storey, above small-pane basement windows. In the upper storey, there is a single small-pane sash window to the right of centre. The left side has a blocked former doorway in the lower storey where a lean-to has been removed, above which is a small-pane sash window breaking the plat band and situated beneath an arched head, providing light to the stair. The south side has three small-pane sash windows and a renewed panelled door with a small-pane overlight to the right, all positioned under flat brick arches.
