Description
The building known as the Folly, located west of The Old Hall, is a Grade II listed structure. It features a castellated façade made of rubble stone, with slightly raised end turrets and short end walls that hide a lean-to at the back, which has a modern slate roof.
The double-height front wall includes four segmental-headed openings at the upper level, which still retain their early wooden frames. Below these openings is a central doorway, also framed in early wood, but above it is the rubble-stone blocking of an earlier, taller opening that once had a stone segmental head. To the left of the doorway is a window with a brick segmental head, while to the right is a boarded door set beneath a wooden lintel. The left end wall has stone ledges and two openings that were originally used for a pigeon loft. The rear wall has ventilation strips that have been infilled.
Inside, there is a 19th-century fireplace against the left wall, and joist sockets suggest that there was originally an upper storey. The interior is divided by stone partitions.
