Description

Halkyn Old Hall is a two-storey, five-bay house dating from the Georgian period. The house is constructed of rubble stone with a hipped slate roof, featuring projecting eaves supported by brackets, and brick stacks positioned centrally and at each end. The windows are 16-pane sash windows without horns, and have concrete lintels replacing the original wooden ones. The original entrance is located in the left-central bay and features a reed-moulded surround to a panelled door with glazed panels. A rubble-stone wall is attached to the right of the doorway, marking the division of the building into two separate properties. A second doorway has been added in the right-hand bay, sheltered by a newly constructed gabled porch with double doors. A lower, two-window rubble-stone wing adjoins the right end of the house, with replaced small-pane windows, and is carried above the eaves of the main house. Two two-light windows, likely dating from around 1899, are set to the left side of the left side wall, incorporating small-pane upper lights. A later rear wing, constructed with brick jambs and a hipped roof, extends from the rear of the main house, featuring four-light windows similar to those found on the end wall of the main range. The building was not inspected internally.
