Description
The stable block at Home Farm is a 5-sided structure built from rubble stone, facing south towards the lower yard at the rear of the farm. It features corrugated iron roofs and openings that are mainly topped with segmental arches supported by stone voussoirs. The central facet includes two wide cart shed doorways under depressed arches; the left-hand doorway is partly infilled and has a narrower boarded door, while the right-hand doorway is also partly infilled and has a wood-vented opening. Above these doorways are two loft openings. To the right of the central facet, there is a wide doorway set slightly back, which has replaced double metal doors, and to the left, an original doorway with an overlight.
On the right side of the central facet, there are two doorways and a window to their right. The left-hand doorway has a segmental head, while the right-hand doorway features a lintel and small-pane glazing bars. Above the windows, there is a shuttered loft opening on the left and a blocked loft opening on the right. The right-hand outer facet contains three equally-placed doorways, with a fourth doorway at a lower level on the left end. Between the main doorways are segmental-headed openings with wooden frames that once held barred openings, and there is an additional window beneath the eaves at the right end. The gable has been rebuilt using blockwork.
On the left side of the central facet, two metal-framed windows have been inserted, replacing original doorways. The left end facet retains a central doorway with a louvered vent above it, as well as a blocked segmental-headed doorway to the left. Flanking the central doorway are wooden cross-windows beneath lintels, which incorporate opening lights. An added projection has been built against the left gable end. The roof trusses have been replaced, and in the brick gables of the cross walls in the cart house, there are infilled pigeon holes and stone ledges.
