Description
The Tivoli is a classical style cinema or miner's institute, featuring a painted stone façade with channel rusticated pilasters beneath a frieze adorned with paterae. The prominent central bay is characterized by giant order Ionic fluted pilasters that flank three windows above the main entrance. All windows are horned sashes with latticed margin glazing and wide architraves. The narrower outer bays likely contain similar lower windows for staircases. The surround of the central entrance also features paterae similar to those on the frieze, though it now has a modern shutter. At the top, there is a high parapet with three small windows at the center, and the roof is made of sheet steel over asbestos cladding, supported by light trusses. The side elevations are brick with a dentil eaves cornice, and a fly-tower at the rear indicates the building's former use as a theatre.
The interior was not accessible during the resurvey, but it is reported to retain foyer detailing and original ceiling and wall decoration, although much of it is concealed, and the seating has been removed.
