Description

Emmanuel Church is a Gothic Revival style building featuring Early English windows, constructed from coursed dressed stone with a slate roof and a stone plinth. It has no aisles, a west tower, and a narrower shallow chancel. The squat castellated tower includes arched louvred bell-openings. The west face showcases a triple lancet window and a gabled central porch flanked by narrow lancets. The nave is adorned with simple lancet windows that alternate with stepped buttresses. The east elevation has blocked lancet windows beside a shallow chancel, which features a triple lancet window. The north side of the nave and chancel is supported by stepped angle buttresses at the corners, while a flat-roofed vestry is attached to the south side.

Upon entering, visitors find a vestibule with steps leading up to the tower on the north side. The 20th-century doors open into the main body of the church, which boasts an exposed timber roof. There are steps leading up to the chancel, which is separated by an open arcaded pitch-pine screen, and further steps lead up to the sanctuary. The east window is enhanced with shafts that have moulded caps. An organ is located on the north side of the chancel, in front of which is a circular stone pulpit decorated with cusped quatrefoil designs and stone steps. At the southwest end, there is a simple octagonal font topped with an elaborate brass cover. The church features pitch-pine pews with simple floral decorations, some of which have brass plates with numbers. The stained glass windows include works by Ballantine from 1881, Jones & Willis from 1912, A E Child from 1932, and T M Cox from the 1950s.
