Description

This is a manor house, likely dating from the 18th century, with a two-storey service range to the left and a former stable block to the right. The house sits within a garden setting, with its main facade facing away from the road.

The main block is a tall, double-pile structure with a symmetrical, three-storey, three-window front. The exterior is roughcast with some exposed brickwork, and the roof is covered in old slate. Chimneys are also roughcast and external. The central entrance has a replaced panelled door within a wooden doorcase, flanked by canted bay windows with hornless sashes. Upper floors feature uPVC windows designed to resemble small-pane sashes, with nine panes at the top floor and twelve panes on the first floor. The rear of the main block, facing the road, is four storeys high and has an asymmetrical arrangement of windows from various periods, some set under segmental heads. A lean-to porch with a half-glazed door is on the right side of the rear range, and a large uPVC kitchen window with a segmental head is on the left. The first floor has wooden casement windows, and the second floor has a mix of casements and a horizontal sliding sash. A stairlight window with four panes is located at a mid-level. Rainwater goods on the right side of the centre are dated 1749.

The two-storey service range has a tall end stack and French doors to the front, above which is a three-light window, both with uPVC glazing. A blocked doorway with a gable end is to the right of the stack. The rear of the service range, facing the road, has a window with twelve panes and uPVC frames. The former stable block, set forward toward the road, has been converted into accommodation and features a three-window upper storey with wooden casements and a lateral brick stack. The lower storey has windows with segmental heads. The brick gable end has no openings. A door with vertical boards, dating back to the 17th century, is reportedly located in the angle between the main house and the stable block, although it has not been directly observed.

The interior retains many period features despite ground floor alterations. The front range of the main block includes a Georgian wooden staircase, with urn balusters, though the ground floor section has been replaced. The stair-hall and the left reception room are now combined into an open-plan space. The house has six-panel doors with architraves in the front range and five-panel doors in the rear range. Windows are surrounded by wooden panelling. The rear range features stop-chamfered cross- and spine-beams with run-out stops to the ceiling, and fireplaces which have been rebuilt in brick. First-floor fireplaces date to the late 18th and early 19th centuries. A built-in cupboard from the early 19th century is located in a bedroom. The 17th-century door has vertical boarding on the interior, along with old iron strap hinges and bolts.
