Description
The Hawk and Buckle Hotel is a storeyed inn building with origins in timber framing, constructed from rubble and brick, and topped with a slate roof. It features a rubble lateral chimney at the rear and a brick chimney at the right end. The facade is asymmetrical, consisting of four bays, with a three-bay, three-storey main section and an additional two-storey bay on the right (No 51), which has projecting quoins. The entrance is located in the right-hand bay of the main section, featuring a moulded wooden surround and recessed panelled doors with glazed upper lights, leading into a through-passage. The windows have plain Victorian sash glazing, with the upper floor windows being shorter and positioned under the eaves. A decorative iron hanging inn sign is displayed on the first floor.
In front of the left-hand section of the building, there is a low forecourt wall made of squared limestone blocks, topped with sandstone copings and plain spear-headed railings. The right-hand bay includes a modern advanced bay at the ground floor with an entrance to the left, and a Victorian wooden canted bay on the first floor, which has moulded eaves and plain sash glazing.
The interior was not available for inspection.
