Description
Capel-y-Wern is a small rectangular chapel constructed of roughcast rubble, featuring rusticated quoins made of raised plaster and moulded plaster architraves around the windows. It has a 20th-century slate roof with deep verges, modern bargeboards, and wooden finials at the gable ends. The main facade, which faces the road, has an off-centre entrance on the right, flanked by two windows on the left and one on the right. There is an early 20th-century gabled porch made of roughcast brick, topped with a slate roof and plain bargeboards. The porch has an open front with small two-part windows on the sides and a slate name plaque above the entrance. Inside, there is an original two-part boarded door with an ironwork handle and a pegged wooden frame, surrounded by a wide, simply-moulded architrave. The original 12-pane unhorned sash windows are recessed, featuring moulded plaster architraves and projecting stone sills. To the right of the entrance is a boarded two-light cellar window. The right gable includes a boarded door and a slated lean-to known as Ty Bach, which also has a boarded door. The rear of the chapel has three similar windows.
Inside, the chapel features original simple, grained pine box pews arranged in a raking layout from the right to the Set Fawr on the left. The sides of the pews are full-height and vertically boarded, with a plain plaster ceiling above. The Set Fawr is simply canted and panelled, with a moulded cornice and a two-panel rear that includes a painted band of Welsh text above.
