Description
The L-shaped agricultural range at the Vicarage is constructed from limestone rubble and covered with a slate roof. It consists of two sections: the southwest arm features two coach or cart bays on the left, with stabling on the right and a hayloft above. The northwest arm serves as a large barn. A contemporary cobbled pavement runs alongside the southwest arm, which is topped with a square, slated wooden cupola that has a geometrical finial and an elaborate iron weathervane. The cart entrances are fitted with slatestone lintels, with the right entrance having boarded double doors. Above these entrances are a horizontally-louvred light and a loading bay with a boarded door. To the right, there is a stable entrance with folding boarded doors and flanking windows, all featuring cambered heads. The loft floor includes louvred openings next to a blind window above the entrance. Further to the right, there is another entrance with a six-panel door and a camber-headed window beyond, which also leads to the loft above. Attached to the left of this range is a large iron riveted water tank from the late 19th or early 20th century, with a foundry plate on the southeast face reading 'I. Townley. Iron Foundry. Leigh. Manchester.'
The barn section has tiered ventilation slits on its southwest gable. It features a large central entrance on the main side, which has a timber lintel and a modern garage door. To the right of this entrance are two additional entrances with boarded doors and cambered heads. There are two ventilation slits to the right at the upper level, and two tiers of two slits to the left of the central entrance.
The interior was not inspected during the survey.
