Description
Carreg-y-Pennill is a medium-sized, two-storey house with an irregular T-plan, constructed of whitened rubble with whitened sandstone dressings. It features slate roofs with slab-coped gable parapets and shaped kneelers. The house has plain end chimneys, with the right gable end rendered and the others rebuilt in brick, which have simple cornicing.
The main section of the house includes a storeyed porch at the front and a rear projection, with an additional wing set back to the right, partly overlapping the gable end of the main block. The storeyed porch is off-centre to the right and has a coped and kneelered gable, although its roof has been significantly lowered. The entrance is Tudor-arched with a moulded label and a square niche above, featuring a modern boarded door with decorative ironwork.
To the left of the porch is the original large hall window, which was formerly a three-light mullioned window but now has a 20th-century 12-pane part-opening casement, along with a moulded label. Above this, to the right, is a two-light window under the eaves with a 20th-century four-pane casement. To the right of the porch is a three-light mullioned window with a label and plain casements, along with a blocked-up two-light mullioned window on the first floor. There are further two-light labelled windows on the right gable return, with the upper floor having casements and the ground floor being blocked-up.
The adjoining wing to the right features a similar three-light labelled window on the first floor and a later window on the ground floor with 20th-century six-pane glazing and an exposed timber lintel. There are additional mullioned windows at the rear, along with a modern lean-to addition that has an entrance on the right gable end, facing towards the yard.
The interior was not inspected during the survey.
