Description
The monument to the Ladies of Llangollen and their housekeeper is located in the churchyard of St. Collen's Parish Church. It is designed in a triangular and Gothic style, constructed from freestone. The monument features a pyramidal cap and gables on each face, with small gables above panelled corner buttresses. Each face has cusped recesses that contain stone-carved memorial tablets with lengthy inscriptions and biblical quotations. The southeast side commemorates Mrs. Mary Carryl, who died in 1809; the west side honors Lady Eleanor Charlotte Butler, who died in 1829; and the northeast side pays tribute to Sarah Ponsonby, who died in 1931.
