Description
Rhyl No.2 Signal Box is a long, three-storey, six-bay structure located beside the tracks. It features a gabled roof covered with tarred slates, flush bargeboards, and inset finials positioned directly above the weatherboarding of the operating floor. The eaves on the long sides overhang, supported by cantilevered catwalks on metal brackets that extend along the gable ends. The operating room has a continuous band of four-pane timber sliding sash windows.
The lower storeys are constructed of variegated red brickwork, accented with blue brick sill bands and paired camber-headed windows set in recessed panels with headed corbels. The plain ground floor has similar four-pane metal-frame windows. The top storey on the rear elevation includes a cantilevered cubicle on the left side and a metal ladder leading to the narrow west gable end, which has a boarded door on the ground floor.
Inside, a lever frame with 127 levers was visible during the inspection in March 1990.
