Description
Gabriel's is a group of two-storey cottages, likely built in the early 19th century, featuring whitewashed rubble fronts. The cottages have old slate roofs, wide boarded eaves, and red brick chimney stacks. The building has a two-window front facing the bridge and a three-window front facing Castle Street; both sections were originally two separate cottages. The first floor includes small pane sliding sash windows, and there are also sliding sash windows on the ground floor at the corner, one of which has a camber head. The Cottage Tea Rooms has two modern bow windows and boarded doors. The left-hand range has two doorways at the centre; one is now blocked, while the other has a half-glazed door. There is a modern shop window at the end of this range. The gable has been rebuilt since 1930, replacing a former high parapet, as seen in old photographs. Next to the door, there is a four-pane sash shop window. The gable slopes down to the left, screening a yard bordered by a rubble wall. At the rear, there are further small pane casements and a lean-to on a taller cross range.
