Description
The Old Rectory is a symmetrical former rectory situated with its back against rising ground and surrounded by a garden. The house features three storeys and three windows, constructed from brickwork with a slate roof and brick end chimneys. The brickwork is laid in English Garden Wall bond, and the roof has a low pitch with generous eaves and verge overhangs. The rear of the house is rendered.
The original front elevation has windows with stone sills and cambered brick heads. The sash windows consist of 12 panes on the ground storey, 9 panes on the first storey, and 6 panes on the second storey, all in exposed frames. The middle window on the first storey has been modified to include a transom above casements, possibly for access to the flat roof of a later porch. The front porch, which includes an extension of the left reception room, features a semi-glazed panel door with a simple early 19th-century casing, and a window to the left with two mullions, along with a 12-pane sash window and narrow sash-type side lights.
The rear elevation is rendered and displays irregular fenestration, including small-pane windows on the second storey. The upper sash window on the right end elevation features margin glazing.
A long two-storey rear wing made of stone includes a tall brick central chimney and a modern rear porch at the upper storey in the gable end. The rear side has irregular fenestration and lean-to annexes facing the rear yard, along with irregular fenestration on the garden side that includes some sash windows.
There is a modern sunroom on the side of the house, characterized by a glazed roof and front wall, with brick gable ends.
From the left and right front corners of the house, tall brick freestanding walls incorporating a gateway mark the beginning of the walling for the walled garden, which appears to be contemporary with the house.
The interior features a symmetrical layout with a central hall and rear stairs, as well as boxed window shutters.
