Description
Halfway House is an 18th-century single-storey vernacular cottage built of rubble with a thatched roof. The front is roughcast while the rear is made of whitened rubble. There is a squat rubble chimney on the left, which has been widened by an adjoining flue that serves a small 20th-century addition flush against the left side. A modern slate chimney is located on the right gable end.
The central entrance features two composite rubble steps leading up to a 20th-century boarded door, which is sheltered by a simple boarded wind porch. On either side of the entrance, there are 20th-century three-light wooden leaded casement windows with projecting tiled sills. A similar window is found on the left gable of the addition, and there is a small primary light with plain glazing at the rear. Additionally, a modern rendered extension is attached to the rear of the addition.
The cottage has three bays, with a two-bay hall space on the left and a single-bay chamber on the right. The hall space includes a crude bressummer above its fireplace.
