Description

Plas-is-llan is a red-brick house that stands three storeys tall and features three windows. It has a central full-height rear wing, which is flanked by single-storey service rooms that have lean-to roofs. The brickwork is primarily in Flemish Bond, with some English Garden Wall bond visible in the upper parts at the rear. The house has a slate roof with coped gables, including a central pediment and the north rear wing. The chimneys on the main range are rendered, while the chimney on the rear wing is made of plain brickwork and set back slightly from the gable face.

The front elevation is symmetrical, featuring an advanced, shallow gabled central bay with a lunette window at the apex. The other windows are made of stone and have mullions, with the ground and first storey windows also featuring transoms. The window openings have later inserted timber frames. The main door is framed with a stone surround that has a moulded arris and lintel inscribed 'Plas Is Llan / E LL / 1765'. While the rear has 19th-century and later windows, traces of the original stone mullioned windows can still be seen.

Attached to the gable end of the north wing is a stone single-storey brewhouse or bakehouse. Inside, the hallway and staircase are centrally located between the main reception rooms. The original staircase features a moulded rail, turned balusters, a close string, and square newels with cappings. The doors throughout the house have two fielded panels and wrought straps or L hinges mounted on lugs. A notable early Georgian two-panel door leads to a bedroom in the rear wing. The ground level has a slate flag floor, while the upper floors are made of oak. The attics contain wide boarded doors.
