Description

8 South Parade is an 18th-century building, originally a three-window house, slightly set back from number 9 on its right-hand side. It has a slate roof and brick chimneys. The building has sash windows, though the four-pane sashes in the top floor camber-headed windows have been replaced with swivel casements. The exterior is stuccoed, with a rusticated finish to the ground floor. The building extends over four storeys and has a basement. A crowning cornice and blocking course are supported by large brackets. The windows on the second floor are framed by shouldered stuccoed architraves. On the first floor, a central window is similar in style to those above, and to each side is a storeyed canted bay window that descends to the basement level. The doorway is framed by a stucco prostyle doorframe. Gate piers and iron railings enclose the basement area.
