The Carlton is a three-storey building with two windows, constructed from squared rubble and topped with a slate roof featuring boarded eaves and rectangular stone chimneys. The second floor has two windows set at the eaves, which are small pane hornless sash windows. The first floor features sixteen-pane hornless sash windows with cambered heads. On the ground floor, to the left, there is an entrance doorway with a cambered head, a four-panelled door, and an overlight. To the right, there is a late 19th-century shopfront, where panelled end pilasters support an entablature with a cornice; the doorway is set back to the left, and there is a shop window to the right.
