Description

The Llanrwst Institute is a three-storey building constructed from grey stone with pale limestone dressings, dating from 1876. The elevation facing the main road features a hipped slate roof and a dentil cornice, with bathstone quoins. It has three bays, with the central bay projecting beneath a pediment that displays the date. The second floor includes three camber-headed windows framed in bathstone surrounds.

On the first floor, the central bay protrudes to create a rectangular bay with a hipped slate roof. This bay features a camber-headed window with a keystone and narrow rectangular windows on the sides. The outer bays each contain a camber-headed window with a keystone and a pediment block above. Above the ground floor, there is a band course inscribed with 'Llanrwst Institute'. The central bay has a blocked round-headed window set within a pedimented aedicule supported by Ionic columns, with a panelled apron below the sill. The outer bays each have a window with a three-centred head and an apron below the sill, while there are shallow lights leading to the cellar. The west return features a single camber-headed window on the second floor, paired windows with a pediment block on the first floor, and two windows on the ground floor similar to those at the front.

The rear block, which faces Stryd Yr Aradr (Plough Street), has two simple square-headed windows on the second floor. On the first floor, there is a single camber-headed window on the left and paired camber-headed windows on the right, all with pediment blocks. The ground floor includes a camber-headed entrance door with a bracketed stone canopy on the left, while the right side of this lower two-storey block has two first floor camber-headed windows, with the left window being narrower. On the ground floor, there is a door with a cambered head and paired camber-headed windows on the left, and a single-storey lean-to with a small window on the right.
