Description
The railway bridge over Llanrwst Road, built in the 19th century, features coursed red-sandstone piers on its south side, supporting a shallow segmental-pointed rusticated arch. Above the piers, the ashlar parapet is castellated and includes a central blank shield. On the north side, the abutments are made of later rock-faced stone, and the bridge deck is supported by 20th-century concrete beams.
To the southeast, there is a retaining wall above the River Gyffin, which extends approximately 120 meters between the bridge and a tubular bridge. This wall consists of four sections and two facets. The first section on the west is constructed of battered snecked rock-faced stone and features three heraldic shields along with a moulded stone cornice leading to an ashlar parapet. This section connects to a square turret at the west end of the second section. The turret is made of snecked rock-faced stone and has an ashlar embattled parapet similar to that of the bridge. The second section of the wall is built of rubble-stone on a stepped plinth, includes a moulded cornice to an ashlar parapet, and incorporates two additional shields. This section ends with a taller polygonal turret of snecked rock-faced stone and an embattled parapet. The third section mirrors the second in design. At the west end of the fourth section, there is a half-round rock-faced turret topped with a shallow ashlar conical cap. The fourth section is made of coursed rock-faced stone and connects to the tubular bridge.
