Description

The Alexandra Hotel is a building from the late 19th century, featuring four storeys and an attic, topped with a mansard roof.

Number 45 has a front elevation with three bays, showcasing sash windows without glazing bars. The second and third floors have shouldered architraves, while the first floor features two canted oriel bay windows. The ground floor includes a shop front, and there is a late 19th to early 20th century cast-iron veranda with a glazed roof and a gable over the entrance. The columns of the veranda have decorated bulbous bases and capitals, with the roof resting on the capitals, and there is cresting remaining on the southern return.

Number 47 presents a front elevation with two bays facing Mostyn Street, where the windows are set higher, alongside a semi-octagonal corner bay that forms a five-storey tower with an attic. This tower is topped with a ribbed leaded octagonal cupola featuring cresting and a lucarne. The lower floors have sash lights without glazing bars, although the sashes on the first floor have been replaced with fixed panes. The right-hand bays of the elevation also contain sash windows without glazing bars.

The right-hand first-floor bay features a canted bay window. The Clonmel Street elevation consists of four bays, including the octagonal corner bay, with similar architectural details. The left-hand bay projects, and on the second floor, there are three-light sash windows in the end bays. The first floor has canted bay windows in each end bay, with the left-hand bay window extending to the ground floor. The ground floor includes a public house door in the middle, with engraved glass sidelights and a fanlight, along with a shop front to the right.

The cast-iron veranda, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, features three bays facing Mostyn Street, one canted bay on the corner, and two bays along Clonmel Street. The columns have spandrils and top cresting designed in the form of fleur-de-lys.
