Description

Nos 151 and 153 Conway Road, Colwyn Bay, are a pair of houses built in a simple but striking Arts and Crafts style. They likely date to the early 20th century. The houses are faced with white roughcast render and have red plain tiled roofs. They are symmetrical in design, featuring prominent paired gables. The roof slopes down low over the ground floor on each outer side, with an angled stack situated in the re-entrant angle of the gable. An entrance is positioned at the inner edge of a recessed bay. Each house has a pair of front doors, each with a half-moon shaped window. Above the doors is a small two-light casement window. The main gables each contain a wide canted bay window alongside a smaller inglenook window, and a flat-headed five-light casement window above. A small dormer window is found in the side of the gables. A string course runs over the first floor of the gables, and there is a vent in each apex. The gable roofs overhang on brackets. All windows are small-paned casements. Additional stacks are located at the rear of the main range, close to a shallow rear service wing. Originally, the houses were probably divided internally with screens, creating a drawing room and dining room, along with a small kitchen and scullery.
