Description
The lodge to the east of Plas Tan y Bwlch is a late 19th-century building designed in an ornate Gothic style. It is constructed from coursed stonework, likely sourced from the local Gelli Grin quarry, and features a slate roof that retains some fishscale tiles. The roof has a single rectangular chimney located towards the center of the main block, with paired octagonal stacks. It also has deep bracketed eaves and overhanging verges adorned with decorative barge boards and shaped finials. The lodge is one and a half storeys tall and includes porches at both the front (east) and rear (west).
The front porch, which faces the eastern approach to Plas, has a shallow pointed arched entrance leading to a boarded door, situated under a gabled porch with billeted barge boards and a decorative round arch supported by timber piers. The rear porch is made of stone and features a pointed arched entrance, with a steeply pitched roof that has shaped barge boards and a shaped finial.
On the south gable, there is a bay window consisting of four pointed arched lights topped with an embattled parapet, along with a single square window at the gable apex. The north gable has a blocked ground floor window and a single lancet window at the gable apex, both of which have hoodmoulds. The lateral walls are fitted with timber windows featuring paired pointed arched lights; the west lateral wall includes a first-floor window in a gable half dormer that interrupts the eaves line.
To the south of the lodge are the main entrance gates, which are made of timber and iron. The gate features a timber framework with diagonal and cross bars within a square frame, with vertical rails at the lower part and long horizontal rails across the upper part. The slate gatepiers have a square plan and a cruciform head, with each facing panel displaying a pointed arched head.
The interior was not inspected during the survey conducted in June and July 2003.
