Description
26 High Street is a two-storey late Georgian town house, part of a pair. It is constructed from coursed, rough-dressed local stone blocks and features a shared modern slate roof with large end chimneys, oversailing eaves, and two modern skylights that are not in keeping with the original style. The three-bay facade includes a central entrance with a six-panel door and a rectangular overlight that is marginally glazed. The ground floor has recessed 20-pane horned sash windows, while the first floor features similar 16-pane windows, both with projecting slatestone sills and plain lintels. Between the right-hand two bays, there is a modern projecting sign, and a further hanging sign is located to the far right. In front of the left part of the building, there are simple spear-headed railings atop a low coped brick wall, and three modern petrol pumps are positioned to the right. The rear and right side elevations also have similar sash windows, with the right side featuring a plain entrance on the ground floor and two modern PVCu windows in the attic. The interior was not inspected during the survey.
