Description
The Toll Booth at Penmaenpool Bridge, located partly in the Dolgellau Community, is a Grade II listed structure. It features 19 spanned sections supported by piers made of four cross-braced timber piles, with a timber deck. The central span was originally designed to open. The handrails are plain, and the deck is slightly ramped towards the center. At the southwest end, there is a gate with polygonal cast iron piers topped with ornamental caps, flanked by two wrought iron gates with tulip finials and a lock rail, along with a pedestrian gate set into the right side.
At the southeast end, there is a toll booth, which is a lap-boarded timber-framed structure resting on timber piers. The booth has shallow jetties on its gable ends supported by brackets. It features a moderately-pitched roof covered with felt, adorned with finials and pendants, and has plain bracketed eaves with bargeboards. A raking dormer facing the bridge has a felted roof and cheeks, with deep verges and brackets. The corner facing the bridge has a canted, transomed five-light small-paned window, with the entrance located alongside it. The rear elevation has three windows: a three-light transomed window on the left, a two-light transomed window in the center, and a single light on the right, all of which are small-paned.
