Description
Old Ty'n-y-wern is a building constructed from mortared rough field stone rubble, resting on a boulder and rock plinth, and topped with a slate roof and verges. It is a single-storey structure with a loft and an added outshut. The gable end features a projecting stack, while there is another chimney within the side wall of the outshut, both equipped with drip-stones.
The main elevation has a doorway offset to the left, flanked by small windows, which are modern but fit into earlier openings. An external stone staircase on the right-hand gable wall provides access to the former hayloft, which now has a modern doorway and a small window. There is also a modern doorway in the rear elevation next to the outshut, which has a modern two-light window to its right.
Although not inspected, earlier descriptions noted that the left bay is open to the roof, with a timber partition separating the right-hand bay. Inside, there is a fireplace with segmental voussoirs, and a pegged timber truss spans the through passage, featuring a cambered collar, ridge beam, and lapped purlins.
