Description
The summerhouse at Glan-y-Mawddach is a timber structure, built in an eclectic Gothic style with Arts and Crafts detailing. It appears to be part-open and dates to an unknown period. The roof is gabled, covered with felt and featuring wavy decorative bargeboards and a central finial, though the finial itself is missing. The eaves overhang and feature exposed, chamfered rafter ends. Inside, the roof is boarded and supported by three thin longitudinal tie beams. The summerhouse has two bays; the front is open and rests on stopped-chamfered posts set on stone blocks. Each face of each post is decorated with carved panels depicting foliage and heraldic motifs. Arched braces support the open sides, further embellished with carved foliate decoration and oak-leaf corbels, along with cusped spandrels. The rear bay is enclosed on three sides and boasts elaborate interior carvings featuring foliage, reeds, birds, and insects, all in relief. Heraldic stained glass windows are set into the return walls, while the upper gable features a tripartite geometric coloured glass panel. The rear wall has two boarded sections, likely originally intended for seating. Inscribed on the right post of the rear bay is the inscription “A Lloyd Fecit.”
