Description

Ty'r Ysgol is a Grade II listed building constructed from quarry-dressed rubble, featuring medium-pitched slate roofs with deep eaves and verges, as well as plain bargeboards on the gables. The building is T-shaped, with gables facing north and west. The western arm of the T has a gabled bellcote adorned with moulded kneelers, capping, and a pointed bell-arch made of dressed limestone. It also has conical tin louvres on the three roof sections and decorative iron finials at the gable apexes.

There are entrances on the right and at the north return of the projecting wing to the west, both featuring Tudor arches leading to tall, recessed boarded doors with plain fanlights. The access is stepped, and the doorcases have stopped-chamfered detailing. The windows are also Tudor-arched, with slate cills; there are two 2-pane windows at the front and two 4-pane windows at the rear, all with simple, wide Y-tracery heads in timber. The gable ends have large pointed-arched windows with three lancets and oculi in wooden plate tracery. At the rear, there is another entrance similar to the front, along with a large steel-framed window to the right, which is a later addition.

Adjoining to the right is the School Master's House (Ty'r Ysgol), which is stepped up and L-shaped, built with similar materials and detailing. It has entrances at the rear and on the south side, the latter accessed through a 20th-century single-storey porch. The house features a 4-panelled door with stopped-chamfered detailing. The main front has narrow 2-pane sash windows in the left bay with cambered heads and slate cills. The roof is half-hipped, with weather coursing where it intersects with the school block. The advanced gabled section to the right has a slightly projecting lateral chimney on the north face, plain banding, and a cornice. The gable face has larger 4-pane sashes, and there is a slate plaque inscribed with the date 1876 at the apex. A further stack is located on the rear section, which has a hipped roof on the south side.

The interior is plain, featuring contemporary 4-panel doors and a simple dog-leg stair with a plain newel post, rail, and balusters.
