Description
Cedris is a building constructed from irregular local slate rubble on boulder foundations, topped with a slate roof. It is one storey high with attics and consists of three bays, along with a rear kitchen wing that features its own gable stack, and outbuildings aligned at the southeast end. The front entrance is located in the southwest bay, marked by a round-headed opening made with long irregular slate voussoirs. To the left of the entrance is a single modern window, while to the right is a large three-light window from the late 20th century. The attic is illuminated by three four-paned windows that rise through the eaves to small slated gables. All windows are fitted with dressed slate lintels, and the gables feature splayed kneelers. There is a porch addition in the re-entrant angle and one roof light at the rear.
Inside, the house has a large living room that occupies most of the northeast half. The southwest bay contains a hallway and a narrow service room, which is now used as a parlour. The living room features a large gable-end fireplace with a timber lintel, which is partly infilled, and a stone fire stair on the left that is now walled in. The ceiling is divided into six panels by deep bar-stop chamfered ceiling beams and similar girth beams, with alternating panels showcasing exposed joists that are rilled on their soffits, while the other three panels are underdrawn with plaster. The hallway continues the rilled cross joists, and the stair that rises from the hall was replaced around 1900, likely when the roof was renewed at a raised level. The inner room or parlour has deep chamfered joists with bar stops. The main partitions remain in their original positions, and the small end parlour was likely originally unheated; it now has an inserted gable fireplace and stack. There is a door and step leading to the rear kitchen, which includes a gable-end fireplace with a side oven.
