Description
The former farmhouse at Cae Mawr is a late 17th century single-storey cottage that includes an adjoining byre from the 19th century. It is built of rubble with an old slate roof. The cottage features squat-end chimneys with weather coursing and slate capping on the left side, along with two small 20th century roof lights. The entrance is off-centre to the right, marked by a stone lintel and a 19th century boarded door, framed by a chamfered wooden doorcase. There are square flanking windows, with the right window covered by iron sheeting and the left window having simple four-pane glazing. To the far right, there is a small rectangular unglazed light.
The byre, which is slightly stepped down to the left, is also constructed of rubble and has a corrugated iron roof. It features an off-centre entrance to the right with a modern stable door and an upper loading bay on the left gable, accessed by modern external wooden steps.
Inside the cottage, a large chamfered transverse beam is visible, along with a contemporary post-and-panel partition screen to the left of the entrance. There is a fireplace with a stone lintel on the right gable.
