Description
The inscribed stone pillar at the Church of St Michael is a tall stone pier, roughly shaped, with each of its four faces featuring an inscription. The legend reads: + HOC EST SEPULCHRUM WLEDER MATRIS ODELEV QUI PRIMUS EDIFICAVIT HANC ECCLESIAM IN TEMPORE WINI REGIS. According to Nash Williams, this translates to: 'Here is the tomb of Wleder mother of Hoedliw who first built this church in the time of King Owain'. King Wini, also known as Ewini, is likely Owain Gwynedd, who passed away in 1170.
