Description
Capel Gwynfryn is a chapel built in a simple Classical style. It is constructed from grey rubble masonry, featuring a plinth course, stressed bathstone quoins, and dressings. The roof is slate with stone copings and a weathered finial at the northeast gable apex. The chapel has round-headed doors and windows, with architraves that include keystones and imposts.
The entrance elevation faces southwest and features a pedimental gable with a roundel at the apex displaying the chapel's name and date of construction. Two round-headed windows, which have sash glazing, are grouped towards the center of this elevation. Flanking doorways contain double-leaf panelled doors beneath semi-circular overlights. The lateral walls consist of three bays, each with windows similar to those on the entrance elevation, and there are two similar windows at the rear.
Upon entering, the doors lead into small hallways with stairs that ascend to a gallery and doorways that open into the main body of the chapel. A small vestry is accessed through a doorway in the left-hand hallway. The chapel's walls are finished with ashlar scoring over tongue and groove panelling. A moulded cornice runs along a plain ceiling that features a central moulded floriate rose. Inside, there are three ranks of pews, with the central rank divided down the middle. The set fawr, located opposite the entrance, has rounded corners on the panelled front, which is topped by a shaped baluster course and moulded rail. The side entrances are marked by chamfered newel posts topped with squat banded globe finials. The pulpit is similarly detailed, featuring a dentilled course beneath the moulded cornice on its advanced front, with matching panelling at the rear. At the entrance end of the chapel, a gallery with a panelled front rests on a dentilled course supported by shaped corbels. The entrance doors are flanked by a pair of 6-pane frosted lights that illuminate the vestry beyond.
