Description
The field cow-house at Egryn is a large example of its type, built against a slope so that the loft opening in the upper eastern gable is accessible from ground level. It features dry stone boulder construction with small stones used as packing, arranged in courses. The building has coped gables and is covered with a corrugated tin roof. There are two vent slits in each long wall, a loft opening in the upper gable wall, and a doorway in the lower gable with a vent slit above it.
The dry stone walls enclose a curved fold yard at the lower western end. Inside, there are three heavy trusses of an unusual form, consisting of a tie beam and collar, with queen posts and wall posts. The tie beams are bedded into the wall below eaves level, and the short posts extend from the tie beam to eaves height. One of the tie beams appears to have been replaced by a reused telegraph pole. Additionally, there is a feed trough and rack against the long wall, and an informal loft at the upper end, which is a later addition.
