Description

Tan-y-bwlch Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the early 19th century, showcasing a picturesque neo-vernacular style typical of estate work from that period. The building is constructed of roughly coursed local rubble stonework and is whitewashed on the main elevation, topped with a slate roof. It stands two storeys high and features a long northwest-southeast range with a central cross range that creates projecting gables at both the front and back. An extension at the northwest end adds a lower one-and-a-half storey single bay.

The main entrance has been relocated to the rear, situated at the angle with the rear wing, and consists of a part-glazed door. On the ground floor of the front gable, there is a square bay window with a hipped slate roof, which has a modern glazed window that may have replaced what was originally a door in the former porch. Above this, a small window is present, and within the deep eaved gable, there is a large painted letter V along with the initials RM and AM, accompanied by the date. On both floors, there are paned timber casement windows on either side, and a two-light window is located at the southeast gable end, which also has a blocked door. The farmhouse features a central tall stone stack with an ovolo moulded outsetting head, as well as an additional stack on the gable of the rear range. The property was not accessible at the time of inspection.
